About the image above, I changed its position, then I erase background and paint the object (the girl) into black color.
I create a new blank Photoshop then I drag the girl's shadow in it. Next, I use Brush Tool to create the background and I have the first new picture.
Next, I create another new blank and I create a second new picture by using only Ellipse Tool and mainly Brush Tool.

I made this image with a content about 2 sides of life: sadness and happiness, or failure and success.

I think your brushes' skill is really amazing.Keep going. however, the girl which represent for sadness is not perfect selecteted area. I mean there are still have the related shadow. Let's try.
Good effort, the contrast of mood evoked from both sides are clear cut.
One suggestion - I feel that there is a little inconsistency in the style. The right (happy) side had some illustration design (swirls/patterns) as part of the background and the sad side did not. Perhaps you could add that in for the left side as well and balance out your design as a whole?
I have one suggestion for your image: the image that presents the idea of happiness should be more colorful instead of having the quite large brown ground in the bottom of the image.
